What’s Good@NYC Schools?

There is no shortage of bad news about New York City schools. But What’s Good@NYC Schools? is not here for that. Our goal is to find and celebrate the positive things that are happening in New York City schools on the blacktop, in the hallways, and inside the classrooms. Many times, before the school day even begins.

Full disclosure. I am the spouse of a New York City middle school principal who has watched her husband come home every day exhausted. He is overworked and overrun with endless meetings and emails, but he is always excited about his job. His passion for education and learning never wavers. Doing the good and hard work that comes with educating students in a city where shrinking budgets, teacher shortages, increasing class sizes, education inequality, social media threats and violence, and bullying is front and center, isn’t easy.

What’s Good@NYC Schools? is turning the focus away from the negative press to shine a spotlight on positive news about teachers and students inside the busy and oftentimes stressful hallways of NYC schools.

The good work of teachers, support staff, students, and parents in New York City schools are not all big, flashy, newsworthy events. There are countless untold heroic stories happening inside these schools. A new and innovative approach to learning. Parental involvement that goes above and beyond a bagel and coffee run for teacher conferences. A custodian who comes in during their off hours to open the building for a school support team. What’s Good@NYC Schools? will tell these beautiful, incredibly uplifting, and inspirational stories of selfless people who do not get any press, but are quite deserving of the recognition.

What’s Good@NYC Schools? will enthusiastically report and support the positive projects and noteworthy events that are happening in New York City schools. Every. Single. Day.
